Frequently Asked Questions

The honest answer is NO… much as we would love to help… the chances of us being able to help you within 48 hours are slim… but if you have an emergency, give us a call and if we are available and all members of the band are free (not booked of other performance) then we will do it… We would never want a wedding party to be stuck or have their special day ruined. If we are available we will do our utmost to facilitate you… But you really should book a good band… a reliable band… like the Showstoppers… we won’t let you down… of that you are guaranteed …

Yes we can cover almost every style of music as all of the band are professional musicians and can read music ‘on the fly’ (sight read music scores as presented on the day) if music sheets are supplied. If you are looking for a particular piece of music and you don’t have a music score (sheet music) for us to play from, we would have to produce an arrangement for the song that you are looking for to include for our ten piece band. This can take a while to produce so we would need notification  at least one month before the event. NOTE* an additional charge may apply for specific music arrangement need for events if not already in our repertoire.

 

Yes we are more than happy to cater for your special days first dance. We can help advise on the most relevant first dance tunes for your day. We also advise on the most suitable dance for you as a couple, as not every song is suitable for every couple. Your first dance is very personal to you as a couple so we need to get it just right. We do advise on different types of first dance styles, some couples don’t like to be left too long on the floor on their own as they can feel isolated and self conscious. We go out of our way to avoid this type of situation, so if you want more of a group first dance, then just tell us and we will facilitate this and seamlessly mover from the first dance to a full dance floor without your guests even being aware… Just talk to Sarah…

Yes of course.

We have a wide selection of our music playlist (and we add to our playlist continuously) on our website, so as you can listen to us and get a feel for the atmosphere that we can create.

We can also arrange for you to attend one of our upcoming events. PLEASE NOTE* we need to arrange if you are coming to one of our upcoming events as we need to make the event organisers aware that you will be visiting to hear us. I am sure you will appreciate that you wouldn’t like anyone attending your event without us notifying you that we might have some guests that may be calling of a short while to listen to us during your wedding night. Its just common courtesy and we like doing things correctly… So please arrange with Sarah to attend an event before you arrive.

 

Yes we pride ourselves in the fact that we cater for all ages. We like to keep the floor full for the night so we focus on getting the music just right, adapting to the age group attending the wedding.

We have something for everyone.

 

Yes we always try to be set during the day before your or your guests arrive if the venue allows for this. However some venues are very tight on room for the meal and need to have the stage area for the function. Our sound team prefer to setup in advance and do a full sound check before we start to preform. The usually have the stage setup and run a full sound check before the wedding party arrive.

If the venue can’t facilitate allowing us to setup before the wedding party arrive we will endeavour to be setup after desert and speeches (usually when the guests take a break and go to the bar). It takes our stage crew around 45 minutes to an hour to setup for a 10 piece band.

 

We typically play for two to three hours during a wedding reception. We can play for longer if required subject to prior arrangement and additional fees being agreed. We also break for 15 minutes during the serving of evening refreshments to your guests.

We can also provide a DJ and disco for after we finish. You should enquire from Sarah (our booking manager) about the cost of our additional DJ and Disco service.

Yes we travel with a full stage rig. We have our own sound and stage crew who setup our sound PA system and lighting rig. We do not require anything other than electricity from the venue. All equipment needed for the event is supplied by the band.

We are based out of Cork City but regularly travel to Waterford, Limerick, Kerry, & Tipperary. We can also travel further afield, if required, but we tend to mainly focus on the Munster area. We once traveled as far a Texas USA for a wedding… but that was exceptional… Great Gig !

 

The band is a 10 Piece Big Band. We don’t do a smaller cut down version of the band because the main feature and spectacle of the Showstoppers is the size and quality of sound that we produce. It makes the event stand out as a special night in comparison to a smaller band. Apart for the quality and sound of the band  being a 10 piece band is our unique selling point. You can be assured that your guests will be talking about the band for weeks to come after your wedding party.

The bands instrumentation has frontline brass, saxophones, and traditional rhythm section – along with powerful frontline vocals allows for the creation of every style of popular dance music.

 

 

We will travel as far north of Cork City as required, but realistically from a cost perspective, around 200km from Cork would be the maximum.
